I don't know if these are all the cheats, but here are a few of the cheats:
SPECIAL MOVES: I made up the corny names of these moves that are possible to perform; most special moves require a powerup item though. FIREBALL FURY: If you’re Fire Mario try spin jumping (R button), he will shoot fire balls while he’s jumping! This attack isn’t very accurate, but it will turn enemies from all angles into coins (provided they don’t bounce over the foes).
HIGHEST JUMPS POSSIBLE: High jumping tip: Use Luigi for higher jumps. 2 jumps! JUMP #1: After getting Yoshi, perform a regular jump, but then press the R button, and Mario/Luigi will laugh like an evil dude, as they jump off his back even higher than Yoshi, I have used this jump many times to save my life, since if you’re falling off a ledge, you can do this to jump back on, but you will lose Yoshi. JUMP #2: Hold B, and go right or left, after you stick out your arms, jump! You will go higher than the normal jump, but not as high as JUMP #1.
UPWARD CORKSCREW: This move, for me anyway, is mostly used for getting up in secret places that are upward. 1st, run (see JUMP #2 to learn this), then when he sticks out his arms press R, but instead of the normal spin jump, he’ll keep going up! When he finally starts descending, try and land on a few foes to bag some points. If this one didn’t work, then maybe you forgot to hold both buttons down the whole time.
SLOW DECSENT: (while this isn’t actually a move, but still) You’ll need a cape for this one, but anyway while you’re falling try holding A or R. You will descend slower then normal, I think that most people know this, but this one is for those who didn’t.
BELLY FLOP: This one doesn’t work on water, (sorry!) but will work on land instead! You’ll need a cape. Run, then fly, while flying hold the direction that you’re flying button, (if you know what I mean,) and Mario/Luigi will do a belly flop into the ground! This move is actually useful too because it will wipe out any nearby foes!
SUPER YOSHI: Remember the UPWARD CORKSCREW? While, you can sort of do the same thing with Yoshi, and all you need is a cape and Yoshi, just run with Yoshi, and press A. Remember to hold down the buttons too. Yoshi will jump in a diagonal upward sort of a way and squint. If this happens, then you did it correctly! If you jump off Yoshi while doing this you can actually fly right away without having to run 1st. But my guess for people who are looking for a way to fly Yoshi, have him eat a blue shell instead of doing this!
CODES, SECRETS, GLITCHES:
CODES: There are no actual codes that you enter, too bad. :(
GLITCHES: There are quite a few glitches!
SPAZTIC MARIO: When you’ve completed the game, (either the level “Front Door” or the level “Back Door”) wait until the princess drops out of King Koopa, or Bowser’s clown helicopter thingy, and then press and hold D-pad up, hold it until the end credits show, (be patient if your finger is starting to hurt) and when they do show, Mario will flap his arms up and down like a bird, and jerk his head back and forth as he jumps up and down like he’s having some sort of seizure. Weird glitch.
QUICK DODGING: If Mario/Luigi stands one block-width away from an object/wall and kicks a shell at it, the shell will bounce back but go behind Mario/Luigi not harming him at all! Try it!
ANTI-GRAVITY: When you have Yoshi and come to an upward hill press the D-pad diagonally downward in the direction of the hill, Yoshi will slide uphill with this trick!
VANILLA DOME 3,LIKE ANY OTHER WALL: Go to a vertical wall of lava in Vanilla Dome 3, and touch it. I’ve found out that they are actually harmless! This glitch works best with a cape.
WHAT NO COINS?!: Fireballs will actually hurt three King Koopas, Morton, Ludwig, and Roy.
FOREST OF ILLUSION 1,WHEN BAD WIGGLERS GO GOOD: I would have never found this one if it weren’t for the online strategy guide at www.SMBHQ.com, I recommend going to the site for an endless amount of info on the Mario Bros, anyway, make sure you have a cape and in “Forest of Illusion 1” go to the logs over the keyhole, and jump on the 1st wiggler, then the second, then the third. Go back and bounce off wiggler #one but don’t touch the ground! Go to the third, then the first, repeat, repeat, and repeat. Do this again and again using the middle one to help you in the air between wiggler 1 and 2. You will get a ton of lives plus half a ton of points this way. This glitch is personally my favorite.
GHOST OF BUZZY BEETLE: This one will also work with any kind of shell I believe. Go to a part in a level, where there are corners on a slope, and shoot a Buzzy Beetle/shell into the corner of the slope, and if your aim was good, then the shell should pass through the platform and bounce around the inside of it! Keep in mind that this ones very hard to do, so it might take a few tries. I suggest going to the “Vanilla Dome 2” level and doing it on the first platform (which is the easiest). I found this one out myself and I am oh so proud!
SECRETS: Here are the secrets; there are a few of these too.
QUICK EXIT LEVEL: In case you didn’t know, if you’ve completed a level, you can press start and choose back to exit the level without completing it or dying! This is especially useful if you’re falling down an endless pit. But remember, it has to have been completed!
VANNILA SECRET 2, ENDLESS 1-UPS: STEP 1:In “Vanilla Secret 2”, go to the area with the mid-point tape, break the tape, and then choose back, STEP 2:Enter the level again and go to the gray P-switch, take it to the area with all the jumping Koopas, STEP 3: and hit it. Run through the area collecting coins until the time runs out on the P-switch or you get all the 1-ups. STEP 4: Push START, go back and repeat steps 2-3 as many times as you want, the maximum lives possible are 999. For a tougher challenge, jump on the Koopas instead of doing this thing.
TOP SECRET AREA, EASY 1-UPS: Go to the “Top Secret Area” level and jump, get Yoshi and leave. Go back in the level; jump again, there will be an extra life instead of Yoshi! Get it and leave. Do this as many times as you want.
DONUT PLAINS 1,COIN ROOM: 1st, go to the mid-tape in Donut Plains 1, then choose back, or lose a life. Then enter the level again and go down a blue pipe to the right, get the feather, and run up the pipes. Jump on top of the coin shaped block and jump up to get a coin. Go under the coin shaped block and hit it. The coin countdown will appear in the lower left corner of the screen saying “599”. Fly around the room collecting all the coins. Keep in mind that there are some on the bottom, and some at the end of the room. Once you collect all of the coins you will get extra lives for doing nothing and birds will fly around you. This is hard to do, cause you may run out of time, but it’s worth it in the end.
RE-ENTER CASTLES/FORTRESESS’S: Complete “Front Door” or “Back Door” levels and you’ll be able to go through castles and fortress’s again!
MARIO THEME: Go to the SPECIAL ZONE and wait around for 2-5 minutes, the song should change to the original SMB song.
NEW WORLD: Once you complete the game and find all the exit goals, the world will change into the following: Koopa Troopas will be wearing creepy Mario masks instead of shells. The map colors will change all topsy-turvy. Piranha Plants look like jack-o-lanterns. The end credits will show the new foes and their names. That’s not all the changes, have fun looking for them all!
