At the title screen before the menu appears hit -up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start- if done correctly, you will start with 30 lives and continue to get 30 lives with each continue for both players.

At the title screen press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, then choose one or two player through the SELECT key. Press START and you will start with 30 lives instead of 3.
